He’s a member of our family, though he’s woefully short,
And his feet number four and not two.
A certified blue pedigree, he’s a high maintenance sort.
But he’s our dog and we’ll give him his due.
A King Charles Cavalier Spaniel by breed,
Sebastian was bred to show.
And show he did, all over this land.
He brought home his share of trophies, while jetting to and fro,
in dog shows, he proved he was the man!
Even the way he entered our lives was special beyond measure,
from a long line of champions he came.
And his owners really wanted to find a good home for their treasure.
Retired, he would never show again.
CH. Gray Stone Piece ‘D Resistance Sebastian is his name.
Ever see such a moniker that long?
We shortened it to “Bastian”, but when called he never came.
It took a while to find out what was wrong.
Bastian hasn’t heard a sound in years, but we still cope.
In other respects, he seems to be contented.
A tumor almost took him from us; we were running out of hope.
He lives. The care he got was truly splendid.
With a second lease on life, Bastian’s quite the tight companion.
But only for one – He’s a mama’s boy.
Gradually, he’s let others in, those outside her dominion.
But he lives to worship only his pride and joy.
